In 2009, MEDEX Northwest, the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Washington School of Medicine, expanded its training opportunities! A satellite site was added in Anchorage, AK in collaboration with the University of Alaska, Anchorage. The new state-of-the-art Health Sciences Building at the UAA is home to a range of health science education including PAs, the WWAMI medical school program and the UAA School of Nursing.
MEDEX Northwest offers a Master of Clinical Health Services degree (MCHS). All students will participate in the core MEDEX PA curriculum, which focuses on primary care and improving healthcare access for the medically underserved and includes a capstone project. The two primary components of the curriculum are the classroom (known as didactic) phase and the clinical phase. Each section spans approximately one year, including an additional quarter of material preparing them for advanced clinical and leadership roles.
Students will select a specific Focused Study course offering advanced skills and knowledge in their chosen focus area. Students will declare their Focused Study choice at the beginning of spring quarter of the didactic phase of training. Focused Study course options include:
Typical PA applicants come from a diversity of health care backgrounds such as LPN, RN, Paramedic, Corpsman and Community Health Practitioners.
